A Journey Through History
Gamla Kungälv, with its picturesque streets and historic buildings, is a place where history feels close at hand.
Gamla Västragatan is the heart of the old town, a charming cobblestone street lined with well-preserved wooden houses. Several of the buildings have appeared in Swedish films thanks to their authentic character.
Above the town, Bohus Fortress dominates the landscape. The fortress dates from 1308 and has played an important role in the history of the region for centuries.
The area around Old Kungälv combines history, architecture and beautiful river scenery, making it an enjoyable place to explore on foot.
