Fishing Village at the Edge of Bohuslän
Nestled on the western tip of Skaftö in Lysekil Municipality, Grundsund is a well-preserved fishing village with around 600 residents.
Its narrow streets, colourful boathouses and lively canal are reminders of a prosperous past shaped by herring fishing from the 17th century onward.
The iconic canal bridge, where Ösö meets Skaftölandet, is one of the village’s most photographed spots and a natural place to begin exploring.
Things to Do
- Stroll the Canal & Bridge – Walk across the historic bridge and enjoy views of the colourful boathouses lining the canal. It is one of the best photo spots in Grundsund.
- Coastal Walks & Trails – Follow the wooden boardwalk from Östra kajen through Skäddhålan towards Vigerna beach. From there, you can continue along Munkeviksleden towards Fiskebäckskil.
- Boat & Fishing Tours – Join a guided boat trip around the Skaftö archipelago or try fishing and seasonal lobster excursions.
- Kayaking & Outdoor Activities – Rent a kayak and explore the rocky coastline and sheltered waters around Skaftö.

- Restaurang Pelles – A popular local restaurant close to the canal, known for seafood and fish dishes.
- Pizzeria Skaftö – A casual option for pizza and simple meals.
- Marina Café / Sommardepån – A seasonal spot by the harbour for coffee, snacks and lighter dishes during the summer months.
How to Get Here & Parking
By car: Grundsund is reached via Skaftö, around 25 km south of Lysekil using the ferry connection, or approximately 40 km west of Uddevalla. The final stretch follows scenic coastal roads.
By bus: Västtrafik bus 845 serves Grundsund. From the bus stop, it is a short walk to the canal and harbour area.
Parking: Public parking can be limited during the summer. The Bottnahallen parking area is a useful option, and arriving early is recommended on busy days.
Be aware that many numbered spaces near the marina are private and reserved for local residents.
