Slottsskogen spans about 137 hectares and was established as a public park in the late 1800s on land that once belonged to the medieval Älvsborg Fortress. Today, it’s a blend of natural forest and planned garden, beloved by locals for relaxation and recreation

There are also several spots close to the main entrances, including Linnéplatsen, Margretebergsgatan, and the Botanical Garden area. Parking can be limited during weekends and sunny days, so arriving early is a good idea.

How to Get Here


Slottsskogen is located in central Gothenburg and is easy to reach by public transport, bike, or car.

  • By tram: Take tram number 1, 2, or 7 to the stop “Botaniska Trädgården” or “Marklandsgatan”. From there, it’s just a short walk into the park.

  • By bus: Several buses stop near the park, including bus 60 which stops at “Linnéplatsen”, one of the main entrances.

  • By car: There are several spots close to the main entrances.

  • By bike or foot: Slottsskogen is connected to Gothenburg’s bike paths and is easily accessible for pedestrians.
